Geocache Description:

East Bute docks built by Thomas Cubitts firm and opened in 1859 due to the increasing demand for welsh coal. Export of coal from this dock reached in excess of a million ton before its closure in 1964. Now the area is better known for its fishing. The crane insitue never operated at East Bute docks but the 15 ton electric crane was used in ship repair at numerous berths, throughout Cardif Docks. Built in 1933 by Messers Stothert & Pit Ltd.
A 35mm film pot can be found in this location. The cache contains 2 items representing the docks past and present uses.
