Geocache Description:

My first park and grab type cache. Located near the old Vimco Macaroni Company, the property is now occupied by Crystal Springs Water.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Back in the day, professional pasta production in Pittsburgh was anchored by a company called Vimco, which had a manufacturing plant in Collier, including living quarters atop the factory. It was sold to Borden in 1985 before closing in 1991.
Found in many regional communities, macaroni factories supplied Italian immigrants with a wide variety of dried pastas, an important part of their culinary heritage. At the turn of the 20th century, Italian macaroni factories operated in Pittsburgh, New Castle, Indiana, and Connellsville. Viviano Macaroni Company, distributed its macaroni products from a factory in Carnegie, a small industrial community situated just outside of Pittsburgh. During its heyday, VIMCO was one of the largest macaroni factories in the country.
