Some time ago I found the Heaven's Gate Drive By cache quite close to here, and posted a log complaining that it wasn’t really a drive by – at least not for old blokes like me. But, rather than just grumble, I have decided to create an example of what a drive-by for old blokes should be.
So, these are the differences:
Whereas the other cache requires quite an energetic hike (I recall my log mentioning something about old blokes needing to take a cut lunch), this cache is a true drive-by – even the most arthritic of us old blokes could hobble the short distance required – in fact I will even claim it to be wheelchair accessible.
Where the other cache can be easily spotted from some distance away, this one will take a keen mind and a keen eye. (It’s a nano – log only – byo writing stick - and I find a pair of tweezers useful for extracting the log from such small containers).
The other cache is an easy find and it would be rather embarrassing to log a DNF – but with this one, it won't reflect on you badly if you don’t find at it the first attempt.
And whilst, after trekking to and from the other cache, you may well need a refreshing drink of water – with this one, if you are successful, you would be quite entitled to pop a cork in celebration and reflect on your success.
