Geocache Description:

The listed coordinates are for an actual cache located in Newington, NH. To log this cache, you must complete the challenge described below.

I put out the "Number of the Beast" challenge cache over two years ago. To log that cache you are required to find 66.6% of the active caches within 50 miles of your home coordinates. Before submitting the challenge for approval, I calculated both my own and Tigquilt's found percentages. I qualified to log the challenge (with 67.3%) and Tigquilt was very close (~65.8%) to qualifying. Based on this, I thought "The Beast" would be a difficult but achievable challenge cache.

What a mistake! Since it was put out, only six individuals have logged the cache. Tigquilt required over a year to make up her missing 1%. No one has logged the cache in almost a year. And worse yet, a few cachers gleefully make a point of telling me how little progress toward qualification even their best efforts have produced. I couldn't have created a less entertaining challenge if I had tried.

This offering is a bit easier and is intended as a Mea Culpa for my previous blunder.

The Rules:

(1) To log this cache, you must have found 54.4% or more of the active caches (either all cache types or just traditional caches at your discretion) within 25 miles of your home Zip Code (or optionally, your home coordinates). With your log, at a minimum, provide the percent of in-radius caches you have found. For example, here is my present (17 DEC 2010) status:

Total In Radius Caches: 1610
Total In Radius Finds: 1420
Percentage Found = 88.2%

(2) You may sign into the cache log at any time. However, to log the cache, you must meet the requirements of rule (1).

(3) The cache owner reserves the right to delete the log of anyone determined to not meet the requirements of rule (1).

How to determine if you qualify:

Use the 'advanced search' function on the Geocaching.com homepage to search for the caches surrounding your Zip Code (or home coordinates) with and without your finds/hides excluded from the results. This will provide both the total number of caches within your 25 miles radius and the total number of caches you have not found within the radius. Differencing these two numbers will provide the number of caches you have found within your radius. I leave the calculation of the percent found as an exercise for the cacher.

Good luck to everyone!
