These rocks are identical in age and composition to Vermont's Green Mountains, New York's Adirondacks and the Grenville Province in Southeastern Canada.
There are also some interesting ruins very close by. They are possibly vestiges of the DuPont Powder Works complex which once occupied the area between here and now drained Lake Inez, just east of Route 287.
Dupont manufactured gunpowder here for WW1 but ceased operations by 1926.
The entire area is littered with old foundations and other structures that remain from powder works.
