Jernbanelinien Alhedebanen mellem Herning og Viborg blev åbnet den 25. juni 1906, og allerede fra starten var der stor søgning til banen med såvel person- som godstrafik. For at spare blev de fleste stationer i banens første år betjent af kvindelige ekspeditricer. De skulle nemlig ikke have så meget i løn som mandlige. Dette førte hurtigt til banens øgenavn ”konebanen”. Banen var i drift frem til 1971, hvor DSB besluttede at nedlægge den. Godstransport fortsatte dog indtil 1977. I dag er der gang- og cykelsti på det gamle banespor, men mange steder kan resterne af jernbanen ses i landskabet. Dette er også tilfældet her, hvor cachen er gemt i nærheden af Karup Station, der i dag bl.a. anvendes til bibliotek og borgerservice. The Railway Line Alhedebanen between Herning and Viborg was opened on 25 June 1906, and from the outset there was great search from both passenger and freight. To save, most stations on the railway was in the first years served by female saleswoman. They should not have as much in salary as males.
