From Dusk Till Dawn Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

magtfplanner: Always unfortunate to send a fun cache to it's final resting place [:(]... This was one of my favorite night caches but the recent logs had me a bit concerned [xx(]... Headed out with inxtricablfate, Ai, and Orion to check out the situation and discovered that the "urban camper site" was a little bit underrated... There was a full blown tent city at the GZ [:o)]!!!!! All of the campers were pretty nice (we conversed with them all) but this is not a situation I would like cachers walking into in the middle of the night... [:(]... In the end we decided to pull all the tacks and the final cache. Maybe...(count this as a maybe)...when all the 'urban campers' have cleared out, we can restore this cache to its former glory. Good Luck and Happy Caching [:)]!!!

Geocache Description:

Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year!!!

The winter solstice occurs annually between the 20th and 23rd of December and is the day of the year in which the Northern Hemisphere is shrouded in the longest enduring darkness. On Dec 21st, 2010 it occured on the same calendar day as a full lunar eclipse, the first time these two events have coincided in over 3 centuries. With this much darkness enveloping our part of the world, you have to wonder...what is moving out there in the darkness? What kinds of adventures are occuring outside of the daylight hours?? Bring your flashlight and come find out...

If you dare...........

Be warned, this cache is not located at the posted coordinates. This is a NIGHT CACHE and is accessible ONLY from dusk till dawn.

Bring a friend. Bring a flashlight (focused LED lights work best). And, most importantly, bring your courage because, if you prove yourself brave enough, you will be journeying into the unknown in the darkness that lay ahead.

There are several twists, turns, and an interesting surprise for those braving the trails during this midnight adventure. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED not to do this night cache during or immediately after it has been raining or you may find yourself with wet feet...

If you have heeded the warnings and still choose to pursue this cache then read on...

The posted coordinates will lead you to parking to start this night cache. From the coordinates proceed east to the trail head to begin your journey. Along the trail you will be looking for glow in the dark reflectors pinned to trees at eye level. The more focused your light, the easier the reflectors will be to see. The closer you hold the light to your own eye level, the easier the reflectors will be to see. About 50' down the trail from the parking lot, you will see 3 orange markers starting the reflector trail. All other markers leading toward the cache will be white. One white marker indicates that you are proceeding in the correct direction. Two white markers together indicate a turn. When you begin to near the final cache location, the markers will become more frequent. The final cache location is located between a triangle of white markers with the container located directly below 3 vertically positioned markers.

For your convenience, the trail out has been marked with orange markers in the opposite direction.

First to Find prize is a brand new box of Fire Tacks to mark your own night time reflector trail!

Good Luck & Happy Caching!
