Porky's Diner at 4444 Douglas Ave. in Des Moines is gone. It's been closed for over a year now and has been missed by this geocacher. Porky's Diner was founded in 1982 and established its reputation on its tenderloins. My whole family would walk to the diner and have a tenderloin every once in a while. We would also enjoy looking at the cars and motorcycles that would gather there regularly during the summer. Then along comes Hy Vee. They buy up the land and force out Porky's to put in a new grocery store. At the time I kind of liked the idea. Then they decide to chuck the whole idea and leave a couple empty lots to go downhill.

With all the dirt work recently, I don't know how much longer this one will last. I will try and keep tabs on it and take it out when necessary. I do look forward to a new Hy Vee.
