Doornkop Champagne Circle

A cache on one of the Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve game drives overlooking the Swartspruit Valley. This cache is located at a picnic spot ideal for sunrise champers breakfasts or sundowners.
While the main road passing through the Resort is a public road this is located on a private road not sutable for sedans. The start of the road is just past the top gate of the Resort.
The container is a small plastic wrapped in plastic bag in a natural shelter between the rocks.
At the picnic spot you will have a good view of the Swartspruit Valley and the houses of the resort and fishing dams below. You will also be able to view the "koppie" (hill) after which the resort is named after - Doornkop (Thorn Head).
While there is not normally a problem for visitors to go down the Champagne Circle drive (starting point of road is the parking waypoint located at the security gate at the top of the resort) it is only recommended for vehicle with high ground clearance or 4x4. Of course the other option is to park on the public road (waypoint provided) and walk down the road to the picnic spot - approximately 1km.
The container is a small plastic wrapped in a brown bag containing:-
- meerlust wine cork
- marble
- 1 Deutsch Mark 1959
- wand shapped elastic band
An ideal cache to do while staying at the RCI Resort and enjoying the surroundings and wildlife - unfortunately at present day visitor fishing permits are not available and as the resort is whole ownership and syndication the only options at present are private rentals or through RCI exchanges. The road running through the Resort is however a public road and access cannot be denied but security will ask you to sign in.
FTF on my first cache goes to BAKGAT - well done!
