A short, two-stage cache to memorialize Ruth Redmond and her contribution to Niagara Falls. It has been planted by myself and the 8th Niagara Scouts to draw attention to this interesting area of the city and the woman who saved it.
Ruth Redmond was a UEL descendant, a teacher and a long-time resident of the Lundy's Lane/Drummond Rd area of Niagara Falls. She recognized the historical significance of the area and the lack of government initiative to do anything to preserve it and she acted to correct that.
The initial cache is a micro, camoed and marked with black (my colour). It's not as near the memorial stone as we had hoped. It contains only the co-ors for the final cache.
The final cache is a small container, camoed and marked with green (the colour of the 8th). It contains a log, pencil, & tradables. A toonie for FTF.
While you're here, explore the Lundy's Lane cemetery, across Drummond Rd., and the site of the bloodiest battle on Canadian soil. Visit the Battle Ground Hotel Museum - part of Ruth's legacy - and take a look at the examples of 'Craftsman' style of home design next to the Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church (which is over 100 yrs. old). Park on the side streets.
The 8th has it's home at the Lundy's Lane United Church, just down the hill from the park and this seemed a natural gesture on their part to thank a true generous soul.
