Around 1972 the N.S. Gov.bought Pothier's Island to make it part of the new 103 highway series due to it being the narrowest part of Eel Lake to cross plus the least expensive route to Yarmouth...Causeways and a bridge were built to and from Pothier's Island... The New 103 highway opened near the end of 1973
