The Golden Age of railways in France was the first half of the XXth century with many national, regional or local lines. For example, Blois was on the Paris-Tours or Vendôme-Romorantin lines and was the starting point of stream tranways lines to Chateau-Renault, Bracieux, Oucques.... Many small lines weren't profitable enough and were progressively closed. Other were stopped more brutally : the viaduct crossing the Loire in the direction of Romorantin was bombed by the Allies planes during the Liberation's fight, in June, the 11th, 1944 after being damaged earlier in the war, in 1940, by the German troops.
This cache is situated on top of the ruins of the viaduct, on the north bank of the river while the cache Le Vieux Pont is situated at the bottom of the viaduct but on the south banks.
Several options are available to reach the cache area : from bellow, after parking at point PK1 and either climbing the piles (it's a climbing school and a rope is required) or going up the steep and slipery slopes of the railway or from above, after parking at point PK2 and following the wall of a castle wall (waypoint PP) and walking the remains of the railway line.
Be careful, particularly if geocaching with children: the viaduct is several meters high and the parapet is sometimes missing.
