Geocache Description:

Geologische Ereignisse in der letzten Eiszeit, die bis 8.000 vor Christus andauerte, prägten das heutige Erscheinungsbild der Stauden. Ausläufer alpiner Gletscher im heutigen Bayerisch-Schwaben transportierten damals Eismassen über 50 Kilometer weit ins Vorland. Mitgeführter Schotter und Geröll lagerten sich im Gebiet der Stauden als Moränen ab.

Grundmoräne
Der Gletscher hat durch Bewegung und Druck unter ihm liegendes Gestein gelockert und ausgebrochen. Dieses Gestein wird in den unteren Schichten des Eises aufgenommen. Bei den größeren Gesteinen findet durch den gegenseitigen Abrieb eine Kantenrundung statt und lockeres Material wird zerrieben. Dadurch entsteht ein Gemisch aus Ton, Feinsand und Geschieben, die Grundmoräne.

Endmoräne
Am Ende eines Gletschers entsteht durch Aufschüttung des transportierten Materials ein wallartiger Hügel, die Endmoräne.

Und was ist das wo ich jetzt stehe?
Momentan steht ihr auf dem Rücken einer seitlichen Endmoräne. Wenn ihr den Pfad bis zum Punkt N48 10.673 E10 40.896 weitergeht, habt ihr eine schöne Aussicht auf das Tal des Gletschers, der diese Moräne aufgeschüttet hat. Die ganze freie Fläche war einmal mit Eis bedeckt.

Und hier nun die bei Earthcaches üblichen Fragen:

1.) Wie heißen die Nord-Süd verlaufenden Höhenrücken?
2.) Anzahl der Bestandteile der tertiären Ablagerungen gemäß Holztafel?
3.) Was liegt mächtig auf den Plateaus?
4.) Und zu guter Letzt: mache bitte ein Bild von Dir oder deinem GPS an der Location und ladet es bei Eurem Log mit hoch. Bitte achtet darauf, dass keine für diesen Cache wichtigen Informationen auf Eurem Bild zu sehen sind.

Geologic events during the last ice age, which lasted until 8000 B.C., shaped the present appearance of the „Stauden“. Extensions of alpine glaciers in the today’s region of „Bavarian-Schwaben“ transported masses of ice over more than 50 kilometers into the foreland. Carried along gravel and debris has been deposit in the area of the „Stauden“ as moraines.

Ground moraine
With his movement and his pressure the glacier has loosened rocks and stones under it. This stones are taken away by the lower layers of the ice. The bigger rocks abrased each other and smaller material has been pulverized. In this way has been created a mixture of clay, fine sand and debris, the ground moraine.

Terminal moraine
At the end of the galcier arises by aggradation of the transported materials an earth wall, the terminal moraine.

And where do I stand now? At the moment you are standing on the back of a lateral terminal moraine. If you follow the trail until N48 10.673 E10 40.896 you have a nice view of the valley of the glacier that has arisen this moraine. All the flat area in front of you has once been coverd by ice.
