There was previously a cache here and when the owner archived that, we leapt at the chance to inherit the spot, as it really deserves a cache.
Update: The previous structure was replaced in 2019 and the old cache went with it..I um'ed and ah'ed about archiving this and making a new listing, but since the new hide is within 4m of the old and uses similar hiding tricks, I have decided to leave it and re-enable the old listing.Check out the log from 08/07/2019 to see some pictures of the new steps being dropped into place.
The two surf breaks here are very popular and as a result, parking may be tricky when there's a good swell running. If it's really pumping, the carpark, nearby vacant block and roadsides will be parked out. In that case, you may even be better off parking down near the nearby Earthcache (GC2CY8G) and one of our other hides (GC25X4X) and enjoying the 1.5km walk up the popular clifftop path to this spot. If there's no swell, WP #1 is the carpark, from where a short walk through the coastal scrub will have you at GZ. The obvious track straight out from the carpark will take you down a lot of steps, so is not stroller-friendly. However, heading west along the main Surfcoast walk to WP#2 will have you at the intersection of another path to GZ, which would be suitable for more "off-road" strollers. Both tracks have some steep sections, but they are properly made and maintained pathways. As mentioned, this area is very popular with surfers, which can make for a high muggle risk, so some stealth may be required and bear in mind, GZ is somewhat visible from out to sea. This is a traditional cache, with a hide inspired by another cache we found down the road a little. Please be careful replacing the cache, as this is critical in keeping it hidden from prying eyes.
There's not a lot of room for swaps and BYO pen is suggested. For the FTF, there are a couple of scratchies. You do not need to leave the structure to retrieve the cache ! Note: The cliffs in this area are very unstable and are undermined by the sea. There are frequent large collapses and as such it is very dangerous to leave made paths and structures. Please keep to the tracks, steps and platforms !
