Cache In, Trash Out
(C.I.T.O.) EVENT
on Sunday March 27, 2011 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
at Bowditch Point Park.
Google Map / Directions
Bowditch Point Regional Park is 17 acres that
is located at the northern tip of Estero Island. It is actually a
dual use facility in which approx. 7 acres are a developed park for
passive recreational use and the remaining 10 acres a
restoration/preserve area. The gulf front is more active while
still providing a relaxed atmosphere for walkers, swimmers and
sunbathers. Walking trails, through the restoration/preserve area,
carry you through varied environments and offers an excellent
opportunity for bird watching while being highlighted by panoramic
views of Estero Bay. The park area also features tables and grills,
available on a first come first served basis, in a shaded tropical
setting sure to please any picnicker. A concession area offers
visitors a place to rest, a variety of food items, gifts and
souvenirs. Restroom and changing facilities are available as
well.
I reached out to Lee County Parks & Recreation and they are
excited to have us. They even requested to participate in the
effort and wanted to focus on exotic removal in their restoration
area. Parking fees would be waived but limited to 10 vehicles in
the employee parking area (carpool please). Restrooms will be open
and they have a 20 yard horticultural dumpster on site. There is a
free parking lot over the bridge with trolly service.
The Volunteer Staff Handbook is available at
www.leeparks.org
Trash bags, 8 shovels, hand
pruners, water and snacks will be provided. Wear long pants, bring
your own gloves and extra tools if you have them. In your "Will
Attend" log, mention how many in your party; so I can give the park
personnel an accurate head count. Assemble at the posted
coordinates (employee parking lot) at 10am.
