The Maori name for the gorge, Te Apiti, means ‘The Narrow Passage.
The cache is only a 5-10 minute walk from the carpark, located at the Ashhurst end of the gorge walking track, and has been placed to bring cachers who would otherwise start and finish at the Woodville end, finding the other caches in the track, to the Ashhurst end, and not miss out on what we think is one of the best improvements to the gorge walking track.
Even though the road through the gorge is closed due to a large slip, the walking track is open. you can drive around the cones to the carpark, there are concrete barriers in place to prevent traffic going further. click on the link for the recent newspaper article.

There is very limited satellite reception at GZ due to the forest cover, therefore from the carpark, follow the walking track alongside SH 3, continuing under the highway where you will find yourself on a series of wooden and gravel walkways and bridges that follow the stream into the bush.
Cache is a 200ml camouflaged sistema.
