A group of gulls can be referred to as a “squabble.” Consult your bird book or the web to find out which gull you are looking at! The Willamette Valley Birding List at http://willamettebirding.org/wvguide/Birding%20Checklist.pdf indicates that the Ring-Billed Gull, California Gull, Glaucous-Winged Gull, Thayers Gull or Herring Gull are most commonly found here.
Gulls may come inland due to stormy weather or may just be on the look for an easy meal!
