Het golfterrein is gegroeid uit een vroeger kasteelpark. Het oorspronkelijke kasteel werd door de familie Mahieu in 1905 omgevormd tot modern en luxueus landhuis. In 1914 werd het een knooppunt van de de Duitse loopgraven en werd het "White Chateau" of "Bayernschloss" (omdat het wat leek op het fantastische kasteel Neuschwanstein in Beieren) totaal vernield.
Na de oorlog bouwden de nieuwe eigenaars een nieuw landhuis waarin nu het clubhuis van de golfclub is gevestigd.
Omstreeks 1990 werd het golfterrein met 18 holes aangelegd. Een lange controverse tussen natuur- en golfliefhebbers leidde uiteindelijk tot samenwerking. Voor meer informatie zie hier.
Bunkers op een golfterrein ? Dat roept toch beelden op van Jack Nicklaus of Tiger Woods die een bal wegknallen in een wolk van zand ? Op dit terrein staan ook WO1 bunkers. De bekendste is de vreemde "Backofen", een bunker die de Duitsers bouwden tegen het ovenhuis van het kasteel. In juni 1917 namen Australische troepen dit stuk in. Ze braken de bunker af en bouwden met de brokstukken de betonnen schuilplaats langs de cachewandeling. Daarmee zijn de brokken baksteen, de afdrukken van zandzakjes en het rommelig karakter van deze bunker verklaard.
Alle plaatsen waar gezocht moet worden liggen buiten het golfterrein. Maak je dus geen zorgen over golf-muggles en rondvliegende golfballen.

The golf course evolved from a former castle park. The family Mahieu replaced in 1905 the original castle by a modern an luxurious country house. In 1914 it became a part of the German trench network. The "White Chateau" was completely destroyed (the Germans called it "Bayernschloss" because it looked somewhat like the fantastic castle Neuschwanstein in Bavaria).
After the war, the new owners constructed a new villa, which is now the clubhouse of the golf club.
The 18 hole golf course was created in 1990. A long controversy between nature and golf lovers finally led to a close cooperation. This results in more chances for some rare species and one of the greenest and most natural golf courses in Belgium.
Bunkers between the holes ? That makes most people think of Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods shooting away a ball in a cloud of sand. Here, you will find WW1 bunkers. The most known is the weird "Backofen", a bunker constructed by the Germans next to the oven house of the castle. In June 1917 the Australian troops conquered this part of the frontline. They broke down the German bunker and used the concrete bloks to construct the shelter that is still visible from the cache walk. This explains the pieces of brickwork, the imprints of sandbags and the messy look of this bunker.
All places where searching is needed are outside the golf course. So don't worry about golf-muggles and flying golf balls.
