As Furnas do Cavalum, na vila de Machico, não passam de umas
grandes grutas escavadas na rocha de basalto que o povo diz serem a
morada de um monstro. Cavalum é um diabo em forma de cavalo, com
asas de morcego, que deita fogo pelas narinas.
Diz a lenda, que nos tempos em que o Cavalum andava à solta, foi
bater à porta da igreja para falar com Deus. Disse-Lhe que queria
destruir toda a povoação e desafiou-O a impedi-lo. Deus mandou-o
embora dizendo que não tinha paciência para tais brincadeiras.
Então, Cavalum reuniu o vento e as nuvens e provocou uma grande
tempestade sobre a povoação.
Do outro lado da montanha, o Cavalum manifestava enorme
satisfação perante a aflição dos habitantes. Deus não mexeu um
único dedo, pensando que o Cavalum depressa se cansaria da
brincadeira. O certo é que segundo a lenda a tempestade agravou-se,
arrasando casas e campos. Até mesmo o crucifixo da igreja foi pelos
ares até ao mar. Irritado com a insistência do Cavalum, Deus
resolveu agir. Primeiro, fez com que um barco achasse o crucifixo.
Depois, chamou o sol para afastar a tempestade. Para não ser mais
incomodado pelo monstro, Deus decidiu prender o Cavalum nas grutas,
onde ainda hoje de vez em quando se ouvem os seus protestos.
CACHE
Ao chegar ao local Parking Area (Spoiler 1) siga o trilho
até encontrar o (Spoiler 2). Suba as escadas e irá encontrar
duas das quatro furnas do cavalão. A cache está na primeira gruta
ao subir as escadas (Spoiler 3). Esta cache é apenas uma
cache mistério pois as coordenadas da cache referem-se à entrada da
gruta, o que significa que não terá de desvendar nada a não ser a
sua localização dentro da gruta através do Spoiler. Terá de
caminhar até ao final da gruta (Oeste) durante cerca de 3 minutos
(60 m) onde deverá procurar do lado esquerdo num buraco a cerca de
2m do chão (Spoiler Final). O acesso até este não é fácil,
vai encontrar pedras escorregadias, lama e até água que cai do
tecto da furna, por isso não aconselhamos esta cache a pessoas que
não estejam bem preparadas fisicamente ou a pessoas que possam se
sentir mal dentro de locais fechados e escuros. Leve uma boa
lanterna, botas de montanha um impermeável e atenção com a cabeça
para não bater nas pedras.

The Cavalum Caves, located in the city of Machico, are nothing
more than caves dug into the basaltic rock. The locals say, that in
those caves, lives a monster called Cavalum. It is a Monster in
shape of horse, with bat wings, that spit fire from his nose.
The legends says, that in times, when Cavalum was free, he went
to a churc hand knocked on the door, asking to speak with God.He
told Him, that he wanted to destroy that church and all the people
who lived in the village, challenging God to stop him. God answered
him, that he did not like this kind of jokes, and sent him
away.
So Cavalum, called the wind and clouds, and caused a huge storm
over the village.He stood on a high cliff, expressing great
satisfaction seeing the village being destroyed. At this time, God
did nothing, thinking that Cavalum would not comply with what he
was said. But the storm worsened, destroying homes and fields. Even
the crucifix from the church flew to the sea because of strong
winds. Angered with Cavalum, and with what he had done, God sent a
boat to sea to find the crucifix, called the sun, and sent the
storm away. For Cavalum never again repeat the same thing, God
decided to arest him inside the caves. Even today he remains stuck
there, and at every storms, it is possible to hear his anger and
despair.
CACHE
Reaching the place "Parking Area" (Spoiler 1) follow the
trail until you find the (Spoiler 2). Climb the stairs
untill you find two of the four caves. The cache is in the first
cave after climbing the stairs (Spoiler 3). This cache is a
mystery because the coordinates refer only to the cave entrance.
You will not have to reveal anything. Just look for the cache
inside the cave through the spoiler. You will have to walk to the
end of the cave (west) for about 3 min (60 meters). The cache is on
the left in a hole about 2 feet off the ground (Spoiler
Final). The cache access is not easy. You will find the
slippery rocks, mud and water that falls from the ceiling of the
cave. We therefore advise this cache, only for people well prepared
physically. It is still not recommended for people suffering from
claustrophobia. Take a good flashlight, mountain boots, a
waterproof coat and be careful with the head, the ceiling is very
low.
