Geocache Description:

A micro traditional cache placed in a historic Nelson public garden. Contains log only so please bring your own pen / pencil.

A cache placed close to the final location of the now archived GCZ317 - The Perfumed Garden. I hope that this one doesn't succumb to garden redesign too soon.

About the location:
Broadgreen House is one of Nelson's oldest residential buildings. The charming cob cottage was built in 1855 for Mr and Mrs Edmund Buxton, and their six daughters. In 1855 Mr Buxton, originally from Derbyshire, founded the firm 'E. Buxton & Co. Merchants' in Nelson which sold "everything from firearms to sausage skins". His house was built on the 100 acre property he bought in Stoke, near Nelson in 1854.

About the garden:
Samuel's Rose Garden, established in 1968, contains 560 named varieties and over 3000 plants includes Slaters Crimson China Rose - the first variety of rose grown in New Zealand. Early settlers brought their favourite roses with them, as roses are only native to the Northern hemisphere.
The gardens are named after the late Mr S J Samuels, a rose nurseryman, who donated both the rose stock and bud wood, and undertook the budding assisted by his wife. The land was once part of the Broadgreen homestead and was purchased by Council along with the house in 1965. Over the years the Nelson Rose Society has added new cultivars to the collection, and Council continues to upgrade the rose stock as part of its continued management of this asset.

About the cache:
Cache is a micro keyholder with log only. Please be gentle with your searching as too much disturbance of the vegetation at GZ could ruin the hide. Please replace exactly as found. Be aware that this can be a high muggle zone. Difficulty reflects the muggle factor as it should be quite easy to locate the cache.

If you have time to spare the gardens and house are well worth a stroll.

Enjoy!
