Geocache Description:

There is a wide range of tracks in and around Wainuiomata, and I hope to introduce you to some of these through setting up some caches over a period of time
This is the first in the series.and takes you to the top of the Broad Gully track. Refer to the map in the link above.
But while you are in the area you can do the "Dinger Remembered-Again!" and "Beech View" caches as well as my new "Puriri Track" and if you are keen for more exercise "Mount Lowry Challenge!"

This is quite a steep track which runs between the main ridge track and an area near the bottom of the Wainuiomata Hill.

There are several ways to get to it, the hardest being to climb up from the trailhead at the bottom of the hill!
Easier ways are : park at the top of the Wainuiomata Hill (lookout side), and follow the main track from there
or park in the picnic area just before the top of the Wainui hill, take the track up the hill and then turn left onto the main ridge track.

Pedestrian access is not very good to and from the bottom of the hill or to the picnic area near the top, but is good if you park your vehicle where I have shown

Please ensure that your vehicle is securely locked with no valuables in sight before leaving it to walk the tracks

At no stage should you attempt to walk on the up vehicle lanes going between the bottom trailhead and the top of the hill, there is no footpath in this area and it would be extremely dangerous.

The cache is near the top of the Broad Gully track, not far from the intersection of the main track, so you can do as little or as much of Broad Gully track as you want to and are fit enough to tackle!

Dogs are permitted but should be on a lead, for their own safety and for that of wildlife in the area

The cache is reachable (just!) from the path, no need to go off track or bush bash.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE TRACKS ARE LEGITIMATELY USED BY MOUNTAIN BIKERS SO BE ON THE ALERT TO ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT COLLIDE WITH THEM AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET MUGGLED BY BIKERS OR WALKERS.

I accidentally removed the pen from the cache and I am not sure if there is another pen or pencil there so BYOP just in case!
