Making Tracks- Puriri Track (Wainuiomata) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

robnzh: Moving the cache to reduce the risk of damage to vegetation. A Making Tracks trackable among others came to inspect.

Terrain rating is too high on this cache so to avoid upsetting those who already have used it for challenges, starting over with a more realistic rating.

Container (which is in good condition though the log was very slightly damp) and the good swaps people have kindly left will be the same.

Geocache Description:

There is a wide range of tracks in and around Wainuiomata and I hope to introduce you to some of these through a series of caches over time . Please click this link for a map and details of this track. (Note: apparently the track is being trialled as a shared walking and cycling track so be on alert for cycles!)

Cache is a 2 litre Sistema container so has room for swaps and trackables.

As you will see from the map description the approaches to this track are a bit tricky.

You can get it to it by walking along the main ridge track from the Wainuiomata Hill Summit, which is the easiest way but the bottom trailhead is in a rather awkward spot! When you get to the bottom you are faced with either walking down to the bottom of the hill, crossing the road, walking up the hill on the other side, crossing the road again which can be dangerous or walking back up the steep track! However as the cache is near the top of the Puriri track close to the intersection with the main track, you do not need to walk the whole of the Puriri track unless you wish to do so!

As GPS reception may not be the best at the GZ I have given specific instructions in the hint, so I recommend that you read it.

Terrain rating may be a bit high but better safe than sorry- I would value the opinion of anyone who does this cache.

Please ensure that you hide the cache carefully.

Dogs are permitted but they should be on a lead for the protection of themselves and wildlife.

Be aware that mountainbikers are permitted to use these trails so exercise care
