As we had been coming here for many years and now doing caching we thought it would be a wonderful place for a cache or two, this is a very nice place to visit especially when the lake is at a high level. This location has a long history of farming which was carried out on the land between two rivers the Delatite and the Goulburn before it was flooded to create Lake Eildon. Commencing in 1959 a Pine plantation was established with the planting of 3,200,000 pine trees over a ten year period, now harvested. This part of Lake Eildon is named after the Gough family, the property extended down to where the lake is today hence the naming of Goughs Bay. Their property was named Fernleigh and the original farmhouse still stands today, you will pass it on the way to the cache. While here you could cool off with a swim, if you prefer to stay dry, spend an afternoon boating, sailing or canoeing or find a quiet spot to try your luck at fishing. Lake Eildon is situated in Lake Eildon National Park, in Victoria’s north east high country. The lake itself is the largest man made inland waterway in Victoria with over 515 kilometres of shoreline, and more than six times the amount of water contained in Sydney Harbour. A large lake with diverse amenities. Goughs Bay offers opportunities for practically every type of boating. Sailing, kayaking or paddling in canoes are popular activities. Houseboats, speedboats and jet skis are also popular in this area. Goughs Bay is home to the only concrete boat ramp on Lake Eildon that services down to 10% capacity. Once you arrive at the given coordinates there will be a BBQ area and a Playground for the children with a number of hand painted posts around the tree in the centre of the car park, To find the cache you are required find the items listed, count them and do the maths to work out the final coordinates which could take you on a nice walk around the walking track past a couple of places where can obtain refreshment’s.
