As a "Relic Hunter" I was shown the village pinfold.
In the 1800s and early 1900s the roadside verges were let
annually for animal grazing. Stray animals were kept in the
PINFOLD, were fed and watered until the owner paid a fee to the
PINDER who was appointed by the Parish Council.
Now the animals have gone and villagers use it as allotments
proudly growing fruit and vegetables. Now and again you can see a
scarecrow in a different outfit (it has even won a prize in
2010)
Soon there will be a plaque describing this historical spot.
It's a nice place to recover from a walk or cycling tour.
