PLEASE NOTE: I do not work there any more so I am not able to take care of the cache as I used to. So there are 2 Options:
a) you, the community, help each other and take care for it or
b) I delete it.
Pico do Fogo is the highest peak of Cape Verde, rising to 2,829 metres above sea level. It is an active stratovolcano lying on the island of Fogo. The main cone last erupted in 1675, causing mass emigration from the island, while a subsidiary vent erupted in 1995. You can watch a video about this eruption in Sao Felipe in the small museum next to the church...
The only deadly eruption was in 1847 when earthquakes generated in all the island claimed several lives.
The mountain's slopes are used to grow coffee,while its lava is used as building material.
Near its peak is a caldera and two small villages, Chã das Caldeiras, is inside this caldera.
You can climb the volcanoe with local guides that can be hired in one of the two villages in the Caldeira. The climb takes 3-6 hours and is not too difficult. The best part of it is descending it – you kind of run down one side of the volcanoe in knee-deep volcanic ash. So be sure to wear long socks and high Hiking-boots!
Enjoy the view on top of it – if the weather is good, you can see Santiago Island and the bay of Tarafal.

Please place that big stone on it to make sure the cache is not blown away from very strong winds that sometimes occur ontop of the volcanoe!
