Geocache Description:

A small roadside cache part of the Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Resort series.

This cache is located on the "top road" into Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Resort and overlooking the spectacular display of weathered sedimentary rocks.

The cache is on the east side of the road approaching the Resort gate close to a bend in a rock formation on the road shoulder (you do not need to cross the fence) and as the cache is small and well sheltered it is not hidden from sight (when looking at the right level).

The Rooikrans hut on the Suikerboschfontein hiking trail is close by. Note this cache is outside the Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Resort.

The container is a black canister slightly larger then a 35mm film container and is placed in the rock formation - under a natural overhang weathered in the rock.

As the container is small you need to bring your own pen and there is limited space for trade items. This cache was started with the following contents:-
- black speckled marble
- Fairy shaped rubber band
- 1998 USA 1 Dime coin

Please take a moment to look at the rock formations in the area as I would appreciate any assistance in documenting the geology for an Earth Cache at this site. Please send me an email with in information you can offer on this site.

From my research these rock formations are very similar to those found at Kaapsehoop, outside Nelspruit - quartzite weathered leaving sandstone pillars - however the sediment layers can be seen clearer.
