Geocache Description:

This is the first of fifteen caches set around Long Compton on the extreme southern tip of Warwickshire and close to the border with Oxfordshire, originally placed for a local CacheWalker Event.

There is a mixture of cache sizes but in ALL cases, none are hidden in any dry stone walls or caps to be removed from sign posts or gates and no fences should be climbed over.

You can either park in the village at N51°59.556', W001°34.987' or at the near-by Red Lion as long as you ask permission first.

The route is about 4.25 miles long on public paths and bridleways but does involve walking along the side the A3400 on a path through the village. The route can be muddy and wet in places depending on the weather. There is plenty of wildlife to keep an eye out for including: deer, foxes, buzzards and kestrals. The complete circular walk will take approximately 2 hours.

There may be live stock on the route and if you are taking geodogs, they must be on their leads (there are several signs on the route). Currently there are three stiles and one step over stone to go over, these may cause a problem for geodogs.

The Cache
Depending where you start from, be careful next to the A3400 on this section through the village.

At the above co-ordinates, look for the obvious big numbers. Take the first two digits of the first year and call these U and V. Take the last two digits of the second year and call these W and X.

Now make your way to N51° 59.573' W001° 34.932' (Stage 1).

At the stepped 'pyramid' spring, find the two numbers below the blue SV, call these Y and Z.

The cache is at: N51 5(V).(U+Z)(U+Y)(W) W001 3(V-Z).(X-Y)(Z-X)(U) Watch out for muggles at the cache site as it can be busy at times.

Remember, some of the caches have the numbers for the bonus cache.
