The Paradise Syndrome Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Prime Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This Is a Voice Activated Chache it is found at the location but requires a 9vlt battery and the Secret password to open it. You will need to find the phrase that opens the Obelesk in the Star Treck Epesode "The Paradise Syndrome". Season 3 # 58. The chache is in the Spring Creek Forest Preserve there is a three space parking lot off of North Garland Rd or try parking behind the bank. Once you enter the gate go a short ways up the trail and the cache is hidden slightly off of that.

We wanted our very first chache to be Epic so we have decided to use our electronic and building skills to make one that is voice activated and since we are a little nerdy to begin with the clue is based on an awesome Star Trek epesode where Captain Kirk opens something voice activated by accident. You will need to bring a 9 vlt battery and place the battery on the snap that is on the cache. For simplicity we only used the last word in Kirks phrase. Speak the word clearly, about six inches from the mic. The box should unlatch so you can lift it out. You should hear a small click, you might need to wiggle the cache to come out but it should open. To open the cache turn the wing nut attached on the end with the long bolt and the cap should be loose enought to come out just make sure that you get it back on fairly tight. When you are done remove the battery and push the box back as far back as it will go so that it will latch.

The Episode can be found at: (visit link)

We have trained the chip with various voices and accents, our hope being that the majority of people will be able to open it on there own. However if you are haveing problems or forgot your battery just look around a bit where we have hidden a back door of sorts. You should find a little recorder device and some spare batteries. Just hold the speaker up to the device and press the play button. Voila access granted. If you find that one of the batteries dose not work please put it in the bad battery bag so we can recycle it.

We have taken great time and care to get this up and running and have also put up instructions at (visit link)

in case anyone is interested in seeing how it works. We have taken care to try not to put any spoilers in the instructions but you will see what the box looks like and how it works. We do ask that you not try to discover the mechanics on your own because this might lead to its destruction.

We seemed to have a few problems with the first few finds so let me take a moment to explain a bit about the mechanics and it might help you. The device resets its self based on gravity and the circuit pulls up the lever when activated by your voice. However if the end of the cache is in the way it wont be able to lift up the latch properly. So the best way to start is by pushing the cache back until it hits the bumper this insures its not in the way and the latch has room to release.

We also had a bit of trouble with the battery snap breaking as they arn't sturdy to begin with so in the back up box you will find a spare if the snap is obviously broken or you have tried all other means of entry just un-snap the bad one (it has a grey connector) and put on the new one. Let us know if you did this so we can get a new spare put in the box.

We encourage and appreciate all pictures and videos

We have put in an aewsome Coleman aluminum LED flashlight its one of the best flashlights we have ever found so we would like to share it with our First to find.
Unless you think the smaller prizes are cool but we think its neat.

CONGRAGULATIONS: to FTF Briarboy and STF RAA I cant belive you went out at night Garland is scary in the Dark he he he.
