Geocache Description:

Almost a roadside cache in Delta Park.

You can park and use the pedestrian entrance in Dalmeny Road.

This part of the park is mainly used by the neighbours walking or taking their dogs for a swim in the dam close by.

You can bring along your dog and some bread to feed the ducks.

Delta Park is one of Johannesburg´s biggest parks. It is adjacent to the suburbs of Blairgowrie and Victory Park. It comprises 13 hectares of grassland and woodland, and three tree-lined dams. It has many walking trails, a "sensory trail" and bird watching hides. It also incorporates the Florence Bloom Bird Sanctuary and the Delta Environmental Centre. The latter offers wildlife-related courses to adults and children, including holiday programmes; about 20 000 children take part in the programmes every year.

Rumors has it that City Park has plans to build low cost houses for domestic workers in the most western side of the park, but I smell a RAT or like we say in Afrikaans "Daar is 'n slang in die gras" (there is a snake in the grass) which suggests that everything is suspiciously not as it seems.

Rumors also has it that if enough people make use of the park then they will drop the low cost housing plan....

So, please go out and enjoy this great public park..

SECURITY:Delta Park is perhaps one of the safer parks in the city. It should however be remembered that it is a public open space and as such basic precautions should be adhered to. Try to walk in a small group of people. Leave all your valuables at home. Always be conscious of what is going on around you. Johannesburg City Parks and the Delta Users Committee try to make your visit to the park a safe and pleasant occasion but in common with parks and public open spaces throughout the world, there is always risks. The onus is on the individual to ensure his or her own safety.

Go out and enjoy....
