Geocache Description:

Micro nano cache containing log roll only

This cache is situated close to the centre of the village, Slaithwaite currently being the only village in England that has a canal running alongside its main street.

An imposing landmark visible is the Globe Mill, established in 1887 as a worsted spinning mill by the Globe Worsted Company. It ceased operation early in the 21st century and is now earmarked for redevelopment.

Also visible from the cache site is the round short stay car park. This is the focal point for the finale of the biennial festival that is Slaithwaite Moonraking. The festival takes place during February half term, it is a week long celebration of the legend of local smugglers caught by the excise men trying to explain their nocturnal activities as 'raking the moon from the canal' and definitely not as 'fishing out smuggled brandy. The festival ends with a parade of lanterns around the village and a firework finale in the round car park canal side.

Beware of traffic wardens! You can wave at the kids too!

The cache itself is a magnetic nanocache – bring a pencil!
Please replace the cache carefully.
