The geological exploration of bauxite started about 1920 in the Alsópere-region. The mining activity started in the late 1930-s with the first open pit in the Bakony-mountains and lasted till 1944. During this period, about 85.000 t bauxit was exploited. There were several buildings and shafts there, but only the entrance of the Miklós-shaft can be seen nowadays. Near the Miklós-shaft there are some thousands of tons of bauxite in the wood, it’s worth to see the picturesque colour of the ore.
