The church in Hororata has been damaged by the September 2010 Earthquake. The church is fenced off at the moment, but access is possible through a small gate. Please respect the area and be aware of the fact that repair works may be underway (although no change could be observed in the last year or so).
Be careful when removing/replacing the container. Bring your own pen.
St John's Hororata, is a Grade II Heritage Building. It was built in memory of Rose Anne Hall, following a bequest by her husband Sir John Hall, former Prime Minister of New Zealand. St John's was consecrated in 27 February 1911.
The magnificent stained glass window was made in London, by Heaton Butler and Bayne and has New Zealand specific natural features.
The pipe organ, orginally installed in Christchurch Cathedral, was a gift from another early Hororata family, the Thornes.
The Parish Hall on the other side of the road was built in 1875 and it is now used again as the place of worship after the earthquake shattered the tower of the stone church.
