Queen Dª Maria I asked, through the provision of 12 December 1791, the directors of the Real Obra das Águas Livres to study the sources that could supply fountains on the Estrada da Convalescença (current Estrada de Benfica) and Laranjeiras (as the residents in these areas had, on several occasions, asked the Real Obra das Águas Livres to build fountains or springs in these locations). The Fountain of Águas Boas ou de Santo António da Convalescença (Good Water or St. Anthony's Convalescence) was only to be completed in early nineteenth century, in 1817.
On its facade there is the inscription: 'Real obra de Agoas Livres. Anno de 1817', overcome by the coat of arms of D. João VI, crowned by the royal crown. In turn, from the upper plan of the fountain’s top tank, stands out a little niche with a valance and tie that central develops up to two spouts
