Lest we Forget - Chapel of Garioch Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Doodledogs: I’m cutting back on my caches. Time to say goodbye to this one. Always a difficult search with houses nearby, although all the locals are aware it is there! Making room for new cachers to have a go! Thanks to everyone who found it!

Geocache Description:

CENOTAPH IS IN THE CHURCHYARD BUT THE CACHE IS NOT. PLEASE DO NOT SEARCH IN THE GRAVEYARD.

There was a chapel in Chapel of Garioch as early as 1195 which was created by the Bishop of Lindores. The chapel survived the reformation and became a parish church of the Reformed Faith in 1583.
It was replaced in 1813 (the present church) and then renovated in 1922. In 1931 the Womans Guild donated stained glass for the window.
The old Churchyard Gateway (pittodries yate) which is at the opposite side of the churchyard from the cache, is Grade A listed and dates from 1626. It is believed the finials on top are from the previous church here.
The Church is B listed and the Churchyard C listed.
The cenotaph for lost soldiers from the area is in the churchyard just opposite the front door of the church.
Please replace cache as found, as it could be vulnerable here if not hidden properly. There is a FTF pin for...yes, FTF! :) Parking is available at the village hall which can be seen to your right just not long after you pass by the church and cache site
