In the meantime, the new elevated and well built bridge was erected. But enjoy reading description from the past, written after a big storm that took away the one of the old bridges: Due to the presence of nearby caches I had to place this cache a bit further from the water. But the spot is overlooking the area of Xing. Also, when there is a flash flood, water gets very close to the GZ.
Recent storm (Dec 2010), that had six days of poring rain raised the water level in this canyon several feet up. It is amazing how powerful rushing water is. Not many things can stand in its way (and talk about it
). A lot of grass, and small trees, bushes, got washed away. The grass in the meadows is all down-pointing downstream. Over the time, there were several pedestrian bridges built here, and the quality of construction didn't necessarily yield the proportional life span. The latest one was probably built the strongest, heavy wood anchored at the elevated ends. It was just built a year, or so, ago. But, the designers didn't expect the water to get this height. I overheard rangers, just before the storm, saying that they will pull several of those bridges, aside, just before the big storm, but it doesn't look like they did it. Too bad... Hope that they manage to fix this one, and re-design the others that are completely destroyed (there is no bridge on the main stream left, now). Congrats to bfGigEm07 on FTF!! Latest update: The rangers and volunteers outdid themselves: The bridge is back!! Big applause for them!! So, should I change the cache name to: “There IS a bridge somewhere around here”? No, there will be another rain soon
