Geocache Description:

This building was constructed by Mr Price Maurice sometime between 1851 -- 1857 who bought the 'Sheringa Run' in 1851--1852. The property carried 29,000 sheep ( 2/6d each) and 250 horses.

The Lake Hamilton Eating House was used as a stopping place for coaches and travelers passing through for more distant areas until the 1880's.

The Caledonian Society restored the building in 1972 and again in 1996 with assistance from the District Council of Southern Eyre Peninsular.

More information on Mr Maurice can be found on the following link: (visit link)

The Lake Hamilton Eating House stands as a proud reminder of a forgotten age.

The owner of this cache passed this site many times and often wondered how it felt carrying a lantern across the stones to the distant toilet on a squally winters night!
