we were recently hiking a section of the PCT by Cascade Locks. I
stopped to look for a Benchmark. I did not find the benchmark and
decided that a cache was needed. You will need to park at the
Cascade Locks PCT trail head (in the circle area as you approach
the Bridge of the Gods), which requires a NW Forest Pass. Head up
the trail to the east and when you get to where the PCT crosses the
power lines, head up the hill until you get to the top. The cache
is nested in a multi trunk bush/tree right next to the top.
I’ve been here twice, the first time there was a foot of
snow, and the last time just plain cold. The PID (Permanent
IDentifier) for Benchmark CASCADE is RC2394. Some day I will return
and dig this one up just because I think it would be neat to see a
Drill Hole in the Bedrock, surrounded by a Chiseled Triangle. Did I
mention that you need a NW Forest Pass to park at the trail head.
Did I mention that it was a 300 foot bushwhack up the hill. Did I
mention to bring a writing stick as I don’t remember if I put
one in or not. Did I mention that it’s an easy find once you
get there. So what are you waiting for, head out and get it.
Up-date, 7-10/11: Good news, the benchmarks been found, so as an
added bonus you can log a benchmark if you want.
