Geocache Description:

The naming of New Madrid* is a reminder that Spain once owned the Louisiana Territory--

--but New Madrid, founded in 1789, was NOT named by a Spanard, but by George Morgan, an American--which serves as a reminder that loyalities were highly negotiable in that time---he was seeking to court favor with the Spanish crown, to establish a colony near the mouth of the Ohio River, thus controling all river traffic for Spain--all for the finiancial benefit of guess who?--George Morgan. * Madrid is the name of the capital of Spain BE RESPECTFL NO NIGHT CACHING The 'boot heel' of Misouri should have really been a part of Arkansas--but an important person had bought-up the New Madrid land -Cheap- and for his financial gain wanted it to be a part of the state that had more influence ie--- St Louis etc. There R two very nice earthcaches just west of here ! this cache IF needed---------THANKs
