Geocache Description:

In the extinct Spa Geyser field. On a loop track starting from the spa park carpark.

The GZ was the location of a boiling geothermal pool at the base of a small cliff, and was known as the Witches Cauldron.
It was part of the spa geyser field that included geysers such the Crows nest, playing to a height of 40 meters, the Waitikarangi 35m, Tamati 2m, and the Loline 5m.
The witches cauldron was described as a steam enshrouded clear hot pool emerging from the base of a multi coloured wall that sparkled in the sunlight.
Lower water in the geothermal reservoir caused by lower river levels, and draw-off of water and steam for power generation, cause the demise of this geyser field.

The cache is a small camoed plastic screwed top bottle, containing just a log book and pencil.
GPS receptiom in this spot is patchy.

Please be careful of falling rocks in the area, and be careful with children near the river. The gates to the Spa park are locked at 7 pm
