Geocache Description:

The Coastal Issues Committee of the Ecology Action Centre had our first annual Earth Day CITO event on Saturday, 24 April 2010, and it was a great success. We'd like to thank all of those that attended the event. We've made this a travelbug hotel so that we can spread the CITO spirit with each trackable that makes it's way through the cache.

For our first year we chose a provincial park within the HRM that is always in dire need of a clean-up. Long Lake Provincial Park was an ideal location since it is surrounded and partially bisected by busy secondary highways. It is also trafficked by dog walker, hikers and geocachers alike, for its beauty, history and ease of access. Its ease of access is also one of its downfalls as the park has been, and in some places continues to be, an easy dumping ground. Our clean-up was centered on the peninsula north of the dam on the eastern shore of Long Lake, adjacent to the Old Sambro Road (Highway 306). If you are planning a reduced emission trip to the cache, there are 4 busses that can bring you within a 2 minute walk; the 14 (Leiblan Park), 19 (Greystone), 20 (Herring Cove) and 32 (Cowie Hill). Don't forget the "Trash Out" part of CITO as there always seems to be trash in this area, environmental action is easy to make a part of everyday life.
