Geocache Description:

This was our first attempt at a night cache, so wait till dark and bring a bright flashlight (or two)!

The trail is about 0.85 miles from start to cache … and it’s a little shorter walking back if you cut the corners. Your parents can pretty much follow along on the paved trails. There is a little off-trail bushwacking near the end.

To get going, look for some reflectors arranged in a vertical line at the start. Stand next to them and hold your flashlight at eye-level. (This lets the light reflect back at your eyes!) Scan around looking for small glowing spots that reflect back (fire tacks or reflective tape). Move to closest one and start scanning again. If you don't see one, move a little and re-scan. If you “think” you see one … move closer and see if it gets brighter. Some of the points are actually clusters of two or three tacks to make them brighter. There are a few distractors near the end, but when you reach a Cluster of 4-5 closely-placed tacks, you are at the cache. Shine your light around ... it is within 5 feet of the cluster.

Most importantly, have fun!

I did my first night cache at Cottonwood Park (GC205TJ ) with my dad, and we had a blast. We looked for more, and had to drive all the way to Wheat Ridge. We had a fun night finding those (GC1K9ZK, GC1KN66, GC1J8ZM, GC1HVQC, GC1K9EQ, GC1K85T), and we decided we needed one down here in Highlands Ranch … I hope you like it.
