Geocache Description:

This is part of a series I am starting called Historic Horsham. If you want to add to it, please contact me. The historic sites will be those that are not the normal ones you will find in books but those that perhaps "Locals" (like myself) are more likely to know with some investigation.

You do not need to go onto the Church grounds to find this cache.

This cache is not about the history of the church, but is in fact the location of the Church hall (St. Leonards Church Hall) where the Rolling Stones played live in Horsham on August 3rd, 1963 for £50 between them.

The unknown Stones then had just released their first single Come On and were supported by a well known Horsham band called the Beat Merchants.

Most people who went to the gig actually went to see the Beat Merchants who also went onto become famous touring with the likes of LuLu and appearing with the Beach Boys on BBC2's music show Beat Room in 1964.

Half of the Beat Merchants still live in Horsham, disbanding in 1966.

The gallery has some pictures of the Beat Merchants.

A small pencil is included in this cache but you are advised to bring your own pen. Please ensure you put the elastic band back around the log.
