Geocache Description:

This is the second cache in a series of mountain biking caches which will all be located in the Stellenbosch area which can also be reached by hikes. This cache is located in the plantation in Jonkershoek nature reserve.

This area is a maze of plantation roads so I will give you directions ensure that you are on the correct route. Park at the entrance of the Jonkershoek nature reserve and get the required permits for biking or hiking. From here you can ride (or walk) along the circular route. On the right hand side of the valley between the trees, near the top of the block of trees you can see a quarry. That is where you will be going. Near the first waypoint leave the circle route and go around the gate. This waypoint is situated at a fork in the road. From here there is a choice, the diehard mountain bikers and hikers who want the quickest route to the top can turn right while the moderate mountain bikers and hikers who want to enjoy the view of the valley can keep left. Each these routes are explained separately below. The terrain rating given about is for the longer route, short route should have a rating of 4.5 for a mountain bike, hikers will find it easier. Both rides take about 30 min to reach the top, I am not sure how long the hike will take. Enjoy the ride.

For the advanced ride (shorter route):
From the fork in the road ride to the right to the start of the first single track S33 58.474 E18 56.097 this will take you up to S33°58.637 E18°56.147 which is the top of the first single track. From here ride to the right along the plantation road to S33°58.639 E18°56.123, which is the start of the second single track. Follow this up to S 33° 58.764 E 018° 56.046, from here you can follow your gps to the cache.
Note: This route follows the single tracks to the top. The firsts single track has many “switch backs” (180° turn on a steep incline) which take some skill to make, but are great fun. If you are coming down on the second single track please be aware of the very steep exit at the bottom. As with all track the rider coming down has the right of way.

For the less adventuress ride (longer route):
From the fork in the road keep left and continue up the road to S33°58.753 E18°56.417 (first turn), here you must turn right. Then continue to S33°58.641 E18° 56.138 (second turn) where you must turn left. Then you will leave the plantation and have an ever-changing view of the valley as you ride/ walk to S33°59.149 E18°56.522 (third turn) were you must take the track to the right. You are finally on the road to the quarry so enjoy the walk/ ride to the cache.
Note: This route follows the plantation roads to the top, but there are many sections of loose stones and quite thick sand during the dry seasons.

My GPS was not working correctly when I replaced the cache. The hint will clearly show where it is located. I will shortly supply new more accurate coordinates.
