Another installment in my Jervis Bay cache group. This time it is one of my favorite old fishing spots that is still available for public access. It is one of the few places in the world you can catch big game fish from the rocks. The trick is getting into the platform with a back pack full of gear and fishing rods at 2 am in the dark, so getting down finding a cache and back out should be a breeze in daylight
OK this is not a walk in the park. If you suffer from vertigo it is best left alone, it would be best if you went with another person and do not attempt this in the dark if you have never been here before or you are not with someone familiar with the area at night. You will need to be somewhat physically strong as this does require some effort in places. It is not recommended for children and although it is a well worn but somewhat overgrown path in places there are cliffs all about. Take your time and you will have no trouble.
The start of the track is at co-ords S 35 01 221 E 150 50 446 where there is a sign post for the track. Take the track to a point S 35 01 254 E 150 50 544 you should not require any bush bashing to get to this point. Then it is all downhill from here, there are ropes to help steady you in some of the steeper places. You should get to a place that is like a big overhanging open area with a sloping rock at the eastern end of it. Climb up through the hole in the rocks then you are very close and can start searching and look down at the fishing platform. Angler do this virtually every weekend and most days in the summer so some stealth may be required if they are about. You may need a torch if it is overcast or in the afternoon. I go in and out in about 10 minutes but don’t try to break any records. Take your time and take in the breathtaking scenery from every platform and every angle.
