This cache has been archived.

JeepFeet: Going to put this one to rest to hopefully open up the area for some possible new hides. Many thanks to all who took the time to work on the Appalachian Trail puzzle and then go out and find our little treasure on the trail.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates, but they are a good place to park and begin your adventure. You will first need to solve the puzzle below to find the actual coordinates for the final cache location.

This caching adventure will have you taking about a two mile round trip Hike. You can begin your journey from the parking area by following the nicely paved Brandywine Trail. After some distance, this path will take you across a trail bridge. Once on the other side, just continue to follow the path as it turns around the bend to the right, but be on the lookout for the entrance of a White Blazed Dirt Trail (which will soon appear on your left). At this point, you should leave the paved path and begin following the white blaze dirt trail, which will take you the rest of the way to the cache location.

The cache on our trail is located at: N 39° 59.ABC W 075° 41.DEF

But the puzzle questions are based on a very famous Hiking Trail that is over 2000 miles long...

- The more famous trail is often referred to as the A.T.
- The name of the famous trail begins with the letter A
- The name of the famous trail ends with the letter N

To find the missing coordinate numbers (
ABC & DEF) just answer the following questions about this more famous Hiking Trail.

A = Name of the Puzzle's Famous Hiking Trail? (Hint: just 1 Word, begins with an A).. count up the number of letters, then subtract 11.

B = How many letters are in the name of the most Northern State of this trail?.. count up the number of letters, then subtract 1.

C = How many letters are in the name of the most Southern State of this trail?.. just count up the number of letters.

D = How many letters are in the name of the State that has this trail's Middle Point?.. count up the number of letters, then subtract 10.

E = How many letters are in the name of the State that has this trail’s Headquarters?.. count up the number of letters, then subtract 11.

F = You can hike along sections of this famous trail in how many States?.. subtract 5 from the total number of states.
