Piazzale Loreto è una piazza di Milano, importante snodo per la viabilità cittadina, posto lungo la circonvallazione esterna, che collega Corso Buenos Aires e il centro con Via Padova e Viale Monza, fondamentali vie di accesso alla città. Il piazzale ospita anche una stazione della Metropolitana milanese M1 e M2 .
Nei pressi dell'attuale piazzale, sorgeva un santuario dedicato alla Madonna di Loreto (XVI secolo) molto frequentato dagli abitanti dei centri limitrofi. Più tardi il luogo, caratterizzato da un intenso transito, fu inglobato nel Comune di Milano, pur conservando la denominazione frattanto acquisita, Rondò di Loreto, anche dopo che il santuario finì in rovina e fu demolito (XVIII secolo). Il piazzale è noto soprattutto per essere stato teatro di due tristi eventi della Seconda guerra mondiale.
Nella strage di Piazzale Loreto, il 10 agosto 1944 i soldati della Legione Autonoma Mobile Ettore Muti fucilarono quindici partigiani antifascisti (sul lato compreso tra viale Andrea Doria e corso Buenos Aires, dove attualmente si trova una stele commemorativa).
L'anno seguente nel 1945, dopo la cattura e l'esecuzione di Mussolini, Piazzale Loreto venne scelta come luogo simbolico per l'esposizione del cadavere. Il 29 aprile, all'angolo con corso Buenos Aires dove sorgeva un distributore ora demolito, vennero esposti i cadaveri di Benito Mussolini, Claretta Petacci e altri esponenti della Repubblica Sociale. |

Piazzale Loreto is a square in Milan , an important hub for traffic placed along the outer ring (circonvallazione esterna) connecting the center Corso Buenos Aires to Via Padova and Viale Monza, key routes access to the town.
The square is also a subway station for lines M1 e M2 .
Near the present square used to be a sanctuary dedicated to Virgin Mary of Loreto (XVI century) attended by residents of neighboring towns. Later the place, characterized by an intense transit, was incorporated into the City of Milan, retaining the name gained meanwhile, Rondò of Loreto, even after the shrine ended in ruin and was demolished (XVIII century).
The square is known for being the scene of two sad events during World War II.
Massacre in Piazzale Loreto: On August 10th 1944 soldiers of Ettore Muti's Legion Autonomous Mobile shot fifteen anti-Fascist partisans (between the avenues Andrea Doria and Buenos Aires, where is now a memorial pillar).
The following year, in 1945, after Mussolini's capture and execution, Piazzale Loreto was chosen as a symbolic place for exposure of the corpse. On 29 April, at the corner of Corso Buenos Aires where there was a gas station now demolished, were exposed bodies of Benito Mussolini, Claretta Petacci and other members of Social Republic. |
