CO note: this multi is alive and well! All waypoint places are intact, and the puzzle gets people to the final spot just fine. However, the final hide has been muggled many times, no matter how many different ways I try to hide it. However, I'm stubborn. So, if you think you've found the spot, but don't find a container (there are a limited number of places to look), then email me with a specific description of the location and I will grant permission to log the smiley.
The cache is not placed at the posted coordinates! These coordinates give a central parking location in which to pursue the multiple waypoints of this cache. Other parking areas may be used, but please follow all campus parking regulations. Visitor passes may be obtained at the Public Safety office. The final container is micro, so BYOP.
This multi-cache is placed in tribute of the senior tradition of celebrating their impending graduation by visiting some of the unique places on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus. The waypoints listed will take you on a walking tour of the campus, so it is not a quick C&D. The terrain is mostly paved, or packed dirt, but some hills are present and one waypoint requires walking on sand.
At each waypoint you will ascertain a number to plug into the final cache coordinates: N 38 11.ABC W 076 2D.EFG. Waypoints are listed in the recommended visiting order.
Waypoint #1: N38 11.238 W076 25.659. This location is the site commemorating notable “firsts” in students’ lives. Look to the building to the east. Count the letters in its name (two words). The second digit is A.
Waypoint #2: N38 11.300 W076 25.738. This location helps students realize when they are late for class. Find the date in which this location was dedicated “in remembrance.” The second digit of the day is D.
Waypoint #3: N38 11.305 W076 25.778. This location is the site of many birthday celebrations, where the lucky birthday person gets dunked by their “friends.” You are standing on an inscription. Count the number of words in the 4th line and subtract 1. This number is C.
Waypoint #4: N38 11.318 W076 25.952. Note the worn area of this statue which is rubbed for good luck by students before their final exams. Behind this statue is a sign that describes the presence of the statue. Find the year in which the statue’s sculptor died. The last digit of this number is B.
Waypoint #5: N38 11.302 W076 26.043. These last waypoints show off some of the most beautiful parts of the campus. Campus culture centers around this waterfront, as indicated by the unofficial graduation requirement of learning how to sail. How many columns hold up the trellis? The first digit is E.
Waypoint #6: N38 11.283 W076 26.113. This one stumps many a senior as they search for the hidden grave. Try your luck—I’ve given you a general waypoint. If you get stuck, check out the hint. Please be respectful of the area. When you find the grave, how many letters are in the last name of the person buried there? Divide this number by 3 to give you F.
Waypoint #7: N38 11.284 W076 26.258. This waypoint is the site of many bonfires and late night student gatherings. What year was this memorial erected? Subtract 1 from the last digit to get G. Don’t forget to pick up the virtual cache find here if you don’t already have it.
