Geocache Description:

If you're lucky and find this cache you'll have a really great view of the Ni River Wetlands.

Small Reward for FTF.

I'm located in sight of the Ni River Wetlands, not far off the Salamander Loop of the Ni River Trail. This trail is sponsored by the Spotsylvania Greenways Initiative.

My manager (I'm too independent to have an owner) has found me a nice and mostly dry place to stay. I've seen rodents pass by but I've never sensed that any are living with me. So when you've made it to the trail just look for a hole without a rodent and there I could be. Or maybe not. But you're a more experienced and discerning geocacher and can't be fooled by my silliness. After all, really, who's going to check all of the rodent holes? Not me, that's for sure. I'm a cache and don't have legs.

So, here's another two hints. The rodent hole is close to a tree and the tree is brown, kind of grayish. You good now?

If none of these hints help you should consider a new hobby, because you're apparently not very good at this one. As a last resort, try this: At the posted coordinates, find theSweet Gum tree. You may not have a picture of a Sweet Gum tree in your head but there are plenty of resources available to help you find this one. Once at the Sweet Gum tree, look for me 179 feet away on a true heading of 250.

In winter and spring you might be able to see the Ni River Wetlands from where I am. A wetland is an area of land where the soil is saturated with moisture either permanently or seasonally. Such areas may also be covered partially or completely by shallow pools of water. Wetlands include swamps, marshes, and bogs.

Wetlands are considered the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems so please don't tramp on them any more than you have to. The salamander you tread on today might be the one whose descendants abandon the swamp, walk upright, learn to talk and make their own trails to peek at you and your kind and say, "Ahhh, how cute."

Even if you can't find me there are several other caches along this trail so be sure to look for them as well. Those others are:
The Notch,
Beech,
I Came All This Way To,
Rental,
Bio-Pond, and
Saturation.
