I have taught many magicians over the years and many want to start off with card magic. The best way to describe learning magic is similar learning music – each move is like a note. It is how you put the notes together that makes a beautiful tune. The moves can be put together in a variety of ways with an infinite number of permutations. It is better to learn 1 or 2 moves really well than 20 mediocre . Some of the best tricks in the world are the simplest moves executed well. Similarly many groups have made a career out of 4 cords done well. The other ingredient is how you present the trick, with the musical parallel that most of the best performers are not always the best musicians. The ratio is 80:20 between tick and presentation It is 20 % the trick and 80% how it is presented ! Not the other way around. This avoids ‘card bored’ pick a card and I will tell you what it is.
