Geocache Description:

River Ramble

An opportunity to introduce you to one of Howick’s little treasures. Nope, not the falls or the dam but a little secret kept by the kids and the dog walkers and those who just enjoy a Sunday stroll. This stretch of river is maintained by a group of local residents who ensure that pathways are mown along this stretch of river so that all may appreciate its beauty. Away from the hustle and bustle, here you can relax, kick your shoes off and enjoy a little shade under a tree as you listen to the trickling sounds the river makes as it wanders through and over the black rocks of this river. When water flows over the dam wall, the kids attack the river with vigour. Big, black tubes appear from garages around the town and the river becomes a waterpark from sunrise to sunset. Most of the time however, the river is home to a wide variety of birds and appreciated by those who enjoy an afternoon stroll. Otter are frequently seen effortlessly gliding up and down the river – be still and patient and maybe you too will catch a glimpse.
Why not make this cache an excuse for a picnic. Bring the kids and the dogs and let them rush about and explore while you find that shady little spot and enjoy the sights and sounds from the horizontal.
